This website is a result of the project SpeechBase made by the
• Kenyatta University (KU) in Nairobi (Kenya),
• Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania),
• Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Moshi (Tanzania),
• University of Pretoria (UP) (South Africa), and
• Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH) (in Germany).
SpeechBase is sponsored by the German Academic Field Service (DAAD) and runs from 2020 to 2023. The central aim of the project is to network knowledge and skills in speech and language therapy in Sub-Saharan Africa. The focus are the partners’ main areas of research: otolaryngology (ENT), paediatrics, and special needs education.
The projects results are presented on this website as materials in the areas diagnostic, therapy methods, consulting and research. There are also teaching and learning modules for speech and language therapy practice.
A further aim of SpeechBase is the development of teaching modules for the universities, wherefore fundamental cultural and regional knowledge must be further researched. For this purpose, research and publication projects are conducted.
One important point during the whole project is the cooperation between the partners and the establishment of sustainable networks, which includes exchange between students, exchange in teaching and in research.
